Other Activities
Of course, besides the breath-taking natural scenery, your hiking holiday in South Tyrol offers numerous other possibilities for active vacationing. The options are countless: in addition to hiking expeditions, mountainbike trips, and Nordic Walking tours, there’s a wide variety of other intensive sports to choose from: Rafting, canyoning, indoor climbing, and outdoor climbing, paragliding, fishing, horseback riding, golfing, etc., etc.
But not only sports make your family vacation in the Dolomites an exciting experience – this area also offers a rich variety of places of special cultural interest. You can visit historical villages and cities of genuine beauty – all seen against the stunning backdrop of the Dolomites. We can also heartily recommend that you visit the traditional “Standlschmaus” which takes place every year in July and August. This is a very special street festival that will make your family vacation in the Pusteria Valley a memorable experience.

Paragliding in South Tyrol
Are you ready for breathtaking Alpine vistas and adrenalin-charged excitement? Then South Tyrol is just the place for you! South Tyrol has long been a Mecca for paragliding and hang-gliding.
The best-known starting area is Spitzbühel on the Seiser Alm / Alpe di Siusi, which offers excellent conditions for a roundtrip over the Seiser Alm, the Schlern / Sciliar, the Puflatsch, but also the Rose Garden and the Gröden Valley / Val Gardenia when the wind is blowing from the south or there’s a gentle northerly breeze. In the autumn, the Sella Pass is one of the most-popular flying areas in Europe. From the Col Rodella flying center, you can reach the Langkofel and the Plattkofel, the Sella Massive, and Belvedere. Especially courageous and experienced pilots set course for the Marmolada when crossing the valley. On days with favorable flying conditions, it’s even possible to pass over and land on the Marmolada (3,340 meters above sea-level.)
In the spring and summer, the flying areas around Meran/Merano are very popular: The Muthöfe and the Hirzer are especially well-suited for extended thermal flights as early as noon. Some long-distance flights have even reached Lienz (Austria,) more than 100 km away.
Pilots who prefer more controlled conditions might wish to undertake an evening flight from Vigljoch in Lana. Its flying center is easily reached by aerial lift.
