INCREDIBLE DISCOVERY: MEGACHIRELLA WACHTLERI
6/24/2019
In the year 1999, Michael Wachtler found a skeleton of a small dinosaur from the early Middle Triassic period, aged 245 million years. The discovery of this dinosaur was made in Olang/Valdaora (more specifically, in a pasture area named Kühwiesenkopf) and his phylogeny attracted worldwide attention: It was named Megachirella wachtleri and classified as the ancestor of all squamates. Near the park of Mitterolang, a copy of this sensational discovery is showed. Afterwards, the curator for palaeontology at Natural History Museum of Bozen, Evelyn Kustatscher, will give a talk on the subject.
